‘Is Eolaí Mé’ airs on Cúla 4!
We are really excited here as ‘Is Eolaí Mé’, our 22 part science series aimed at 8-12 year olds airs on Cúla 4 for the first time tomorrow evening at 5.25pm! The programme will air every Tuesday and Thursday at 5.25pm from now until the start of December. The programme will also be available on the TG4 Player www.tg4.tv which can be used as a resourceful classroom tool. A Website based on the science series will also be launched tomorrow www.cula4.com/Iseolaime with extra information on the series as well as information on the segment on “Home Experiments”.
‘Is Eolaí Mé’ is fun and fast paced with kids involved in the action, as they create experiments, participate in challenges and visit locations of scientific interest nationwide, for example Blackrock Observatory, W5 Belfast, Birr Castle and an archaeology dig in Trim.
Each episode begins in studio, an attic workshop where our presenter Peadar introduces the theme of the day. Based on the primary school science curriculum, the topics under discussion in ‘Is Eolaí Mé’ are presented in a fun and entertaining way. Each episode focuses on one curriculum based them, for example LIGHT, GRAVITY, THE SOLAR SYSTEM etc.
Young people join Peadar in studio in each episode to test and experiment various theories and also join Peadar and Úna on location, on a bat walk to learn more about Echolocation, Orienteering to test a compass, Sailing to learn more about aerodynamics and lots more.
The aim of ‘Is Eolaí Mé’ is to encourage kids to get back to basics and learn how to investigate and explore the environment in which they live.
The young guests also have to compete in a studio in a scientific fun challenge, often against the clock to win an Is Eolaí Mé coveted medal.
The series features animated segments along with short drama skits produced in a Black & White Silent movie style. Each skit highlights the theme or topic of the day written by Patricia Forde and performed by actors Jonathan & Neil Gunning.
Each episode ends with instructions on an experiment that can easily be done at home.
The series is presented by Peadar Ó Goill and Úna Ní Fhlatharta under the consultation of Dr. Naomi Lavelle (Dr. How Science Wows).
Directed by Róisín Ní Thuairisg & Deirdre Ní Fhlatharta and produced by Siobhán Ní Bhrádaigh, Darach Ó Tuairisg & Mícheál Ó Domhnaill.
